What Licence will I require?

The RxWorks Dicom Platform operates on an annual licence per terminal.

What Hardware do I need?

This is dependent on the number of images you wish to store, the amount of growth you envisage, and the type of images you wish to store i.e. Xray, Ultrasound, MRI, Cat Scan, etc. It also depends on the number of clinicians wishing to diagnose images simultaneously from different locations.

For existing RxWorks clients we recommend either a new Pacs fileserver or powerful Diagnostic Workstation plus Clinical Review Monitor. Your RxWorks Account Manager will prepare a quote based on the information you provide.

Why are many Dicom systems so expensive?

It’s difficult to give a good reason! Dicom solutions are nothing more than traditional IT systems with specialized imaging devices attached. The images are stored in traditional databases. The images are viewed using specialized software. Dicom itself is another file format standard not unlike those we at RxWorks have dealt with for the past 20 years.

As we have mentioned elsewhere, the software developers who wrote the RxWorks Dicom Platform were involved in writing some of the initial Dicom Digital Image Communication in Medicine (Dicom) standards and remain absolutely committed to ensuring that the RxWorks Dicom Platform remains fully Dicom compliant in the years ahead.

Our technicians service your server and network remotely over the internet. In the case of a hardware failure, a representative from the server manufacturer can be at your clinic within four hours.

What if I already have some imaging devices – can I still use the RxWorks Platform?

Yes. If they are DICOM compliant it is usually just a matter of changing a few configuration settings on your diagnostic equipment. This would mean that your Dicom images will be stored in the RxWorks system rather then the system that came with your diagnostic equipment. If they are not Dicom compliant, we can install a print driver on the terminal which will allow the device to “print” a Dicom compliant file and store this on the Platform.
